It\u2019s finally Christmas season everyone! A time for merry, cheer and the gifting of iphones. Around this time of year, with sales and price drops, people decide to get the upgraded versions. But what do you do with the good old iphone that has never failed you? Well, I suggest being sustainable and \u201ctrading it in\u201d as you buy the new and improved iphone. Here are a couple things you can do with your old phones to give it away for reuse instead of having it lying around the house. Here is a step by step tutorial on how you can get your iphone ready for the next stage of its journey.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

Find My iPhone<\/span><\/h1>\n

First of all, you should start by disabling the Find My iPhone feature in the old phone. This is very important for the phone\u2019s next user as they will not be able to activate it if it is left undisabled.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

    \n
  1. Go to settings\u00a0<\/span><\/li>\n
  2. Click Apple ID\u00a0<\/span><\/li>\n
  3. Click \u201cFind My\u201d icon\u00a0<\/span><\/li>\n
  4. In the next page, click Find My iPhone and switch the slider to the off setting\u00a0<\/span><\/li>\n<\/ol>\n

    Disable iMessage\u00a0<\/span><\/h1>\n

    When switching to an Android phone, this is a very important step to consider because you will not be able to access any of your old chats or messages, as well as having the ability to send them. To be on the safe side, here are the steps you should follow.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

    1. Go to settings\u00a0<\/span><\/li>\n
    2. Find the messages icon\u00a0<\/span><\/li>\n
    3. Switch the slider to the off setting\u00a0<\/span><\/li>\n<\/ol>\n

      iCloud\u00a0<\/span><\/h1>\n

      See how easy it is so far! You\u2019re almost there, it is not too difficult to be sustainable if you put your heart in it. Next up is signing out of storage known as iCloud. Everything that is already in the storage is stored safe and sound for your new phone, but because the phone will belong to someone else in the future, you want to make sure you do not leave anything behind.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

      1. Go to settings\u00a0<\/span><\/li>\n
      2. Click Apple ID\u00a0<\/span><\/li>\n
      3. Scroll down until you can see the sign out directive\u00a0<\/span><\/li>\n<\/ol>\n

        Erase\u00a0<\/span><\/h1>\n

        Finally, we are going to erase everything to get the job done. Now, I suggest you have some one-on-one time with your new phone before completing this final step because it is not reversible. Who knows, the phone might come for a better deal later or it may not be to your liking. All in all, hold off on this last step till you know for sure. After you are ready, these are the steps to follow.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

        1. Go to settings\u00a0<\/span><\/li>\n
        2. Click General\u00a0<\/span><\/li>\n
        3. Click Transfer\/Reset iPhone\u00a0<\/span><\/li>\n
        4. Click Erase Contacts and Settings\u00a0<\/span><\/li>\n
        5. If you get a warning, enter your PIN number to complete the erase<\/span><\/li>\n
        6. Click Continue and you\u2019re done!<\/span><\/li>\n<\/ol>\n

          There you have it folks, you have contributed to Canada\u2019s road to complete sustainability. Not only have you saved a phone from being tossed in the junkyard and becoming waste, but you have also allowed for someone else to have the opportunity of buying an iphone at a much more affordable price point!
